Ten Health Tips for Internet Marketers
Since I started as an Internet Marketer, I've found myself sitting at my desk much more than I use to. I've made sacrifices to create enough time to get this business off the ground. I don't do all the gardening I use to do. There are weeds in my flowerbeds.
Suddenly the things I use to do to stay fit and healthy weren't as important as achieving my dreams, except what's the point of making it if you let you health lapse in the meantime.
I'm sure you are like me; you want to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours.
Here are my tips for staying healthy while you put in those long hours at the computer to create success.
Health Tip Number One
Find a physical activity you enjoy and commit to a daily regimen.
This can take the form of swimming, gym, running, gardening, walking, and hiking. Make it something you can do every day, so exotic things like hang gliding, can be left to days off.
I have dogs so they put my collar on and haul me off for a walk everyday. They take me to a trail that works my cardio vascular system. The trail winds up hill and down dale through a forest. We get occasional views of the lake below us. By the final climb back up to the car, I know I've had a work out. Of course, I have to do the driving home cause the dogs are flaked out in the back.
Health Tip Number Two
Follow a routine. Mine is simple. I start work around 6 a.m. AT 8 o'clock I break for breakfast, then spend from 9 to noon back at my desk. At noon, I do Health tip number one. When we return from walkies, I do house duty chores. I plan supper and get it ready.
By six p.m. I am back at the computer for a couple more hours. If you stick to a similar, routine you will establish a discipline to see you through the late night disasters, and pre-launch nightmares.
Health Tip Number Three
Eat regular meals: don't snack at the desk.
I know sometimes the demands on Internet Marketing preclude regular breaks and snacking at the desk becomes a temptation. Do not give in. Establish a routine and stick to it. What you consume at the desk is 99% of the time junk food. Now I know the pious among you will claim you munch on carrot and celery sticks. However, for the rest of us a no food at the desk policy is the best policy.
Health Tip Number Four
Know when to push away.
Internet Marketing is an endlessly fascinating enterprise. Check the email one last time for that lead you need to hit your daily stats. Go to the website one last time to check your hit tracker. Go to PayPal to see if your income has covered your outgo. Go to Traffic Swarm and click just five more websites. Folks you have to push away from the desk when the day is done. Don't worry, you inbox will fill up, your hit tracker never sleeps, you can always click some more tomorrow. Push away!
Health Tip Number Five
Establish a planned day off. You escaped the rat race to be your own boss not put in seven days a week. You need the time away from your desk. You need rest and relaxation. You need to find a place of solitude where you linger over a morning sunrise, or cherish a romantic candle light dinner, even if it's on the back deck. Long term your health will suffer if you do not take a day off.
Health Tip Number Six
Make sure your office is adequately lit. Dim light strains the eyes, bright light is too reflective. Do not work at your computer just by the light of the computer screen! If you wear, glasses get the anti-glare tint. For a small price you save your eyes from unnecessary work.
Health Tip Number Seven
Make sure you have a good quality chair. You are going to spend hours every day at your desk. If your chair is uncomfortable or poorly designed you face a serious back pain problem that might rob you of your productivity. The money you invest in a good chair will pay for itself many times over.
Health Tip Number Eight
Buy good quality headphones and other gear.
Pay attention to your every day activities. Most of us use headphones. Pay more for better quality. Make sure you head set has an easy to reach volume control. Keep the volume down. As I type in my GDI leads I like to rock to some music. I type quicker when I'm not thinking about where my fingers should be. Resist the urge to crank up the volume for your favourite songs. Going deaf is a non-productive measure.
What about wrist support? I use a Microsoft Natural Multi Media Key board. The split of the keys improves my typing speed (nothing helps my typos) and it has a well designed keyboard that supports your wrist. If you don't have that invest in a wrist support gel pad.
Health Tip Number Nine
Drink lots of water. Water consumption for a healthy body is between 5-6 full glasses a day. Water keeps you refreshed and hydrated. Coffee is okay. The caffeine rush may be essential to get you through the day. Coffee has zero water value. You need that water.
Health Tip Number Ten
Socialize. Internet marketing is anti-social in some aspects. Socialization helps you maintain perspective, and helps you relate to your prospects and their concerns and issues. Socialization keeps your self-importance in check. Socialization sharpens your sense of humour. Schedule dinners with friend, fishing trips with the buddies or for the ladies that most important of skills shopping with your girl friends and gossiping about your men.
